Ken's Tackle Fishing Report

Otter Tail Lake Named in Top 10 MN Fishing Lakes

August 25, 2010

Recently came across an article where Otter Tail Lake is in the top 10 fishing lakes.  While this is not a surprise to those of us in the fishing business, it's something to be proud of when you consider the numbers.  Below I'll share the article, but first let's tell you what is working in our neck of the woods.

Walleyes are being caught in 15 to 30 feet of water using crawlers and redtail chubs.  At night or cloudy conditions crank baits are working well in 8 to 10 feet of water.

Musky bite on West Battle Lake has been working along the weed lines using bucktails and bulldawgs.

Sunfish bit has been pretty consistent as well in 10 to 14 feet of water.

Now - here's the article on Otter Tail Lake:

Minnesota Top 10 Fishing Lakes
By Ana Pleta, eHow Contributor

Minnesota has lots of opportunities for fishing.

Minnesota has 3.8 million acres of fishing water, not counting Lake Superior. Many of Minnesota's best fishing lakes are noted for a particular species, such as largemouth bass or walleye. Other lakes are renowned for their abundant variety of game. You'll need a current state fishing license to drop a line into Minnesota's lakes or to join a guided outing.

Otter Tail Lake
Otter Tail Lake, located in the northwestern part of the state near Fargo, North Dakota, is a notable walleye fishing destination, but the lake has many perch and bass, as well. Fish here tend to be large in size, and once you boat in beyond the shallow flats, you'll find year-round fishing opportunities.

Other lakes in the top 10:
Alexandria Chain
Fish Hook Lake
Gull Lake
Lake Minnetonka
Lake Waconia
Lake Washington
Vermilion Lake
Whitefish Chain
Woman Lake
