RE: fishing update from Ken's tackle
Fishing has slowed a little. Conditions are good for moving around on the lakes. Walleyes are being caught in 20 to 40 feet of water. Spoons and fathead minnows are working best. Use a shiner or sucker minnow on your set lines. Early morning or later in the afternoon is prime time.
Perch bite it improving in the area. They are being caught in 8 to 20 feet of water and you will have plenty of action but you will have to do some sorting.
Sunfish and crappies are starting to be a little more active in the 10 to 20 foot range. Wax worms and crappie minnows are a good choice.

Fishing out of an ice house
fish house rental is what it is—a rental shack facilitating a fishing
experience, I still have a deep need that my renters/fishermen catch
fish. Basically, if people aren't catching perch or walleyes in my
shacks I move them.
A few days ago I stepped into a fish house and was met by disappointed
eyes—no fish, no bites, no action. I immediately moved the house to
get something positive going. After I had moved the large 8x16 fish
house and began to drill out the holes, I noticed something odd. The
guys in the shack had fixed the rattle reels up with steel leaders and
1/4 oz. round lead-head jigs (normally used for summer-time fishing)
and to top that off, the shiner minnows they were using for bait on
the jigs were stabbed through the head—dead as could be. I was
stunned, I had moved my house off a good spot because the stuff they
were using wouldn't catch the hungriest of fish!
Please pay attention to details when fishing. Things don't always
have to be perfect to be reasonably productive, but you have to give
the fish a little credit for having some sensibilities. Don't forget
to ask for help if you're not sure.
After I got the guys settled again I gave a condensed fishing seminar
to the guys, and they called me a while later, excited with the news
that they had caught several walleyes with the information they learned.

fishing update from Ken's tackle
You will find Walleyes in 18 to 35 feet of water. Best bite is early in the morning or later in the evening.
Perch are starting to bite in 8 to 10 feet of water on weed beds. Just bounce a jig on the bottom with a fathead, crappie minnow or wax worms. You will have to sort thru the fish - but you will find some great eating perch.
Panfish bite is also starting up in 10 to 15 feet of water. Crappie minnows or wax worms are working best. Look for fish to be suspended about 4 feet off the bottom.
Northern are hitting frozen smelt on tipups in 6 to 10 feet of water.
Ice conditions are good in the area and accesses are in good shape. Not a reason in the world to not be out fishing! Give us a call for some direction and an update at Ken's Tackle - 218-495-2895.

fishing update from Ken's tackle
Fishing in Otter Tail Lake area continues to be pretty good.
Walleyes are caught in 15 to 30 feet of water. Perch are finally starting to show up in the shallows or on the first break of Otter Tail Lake. You will be sorting but some nice fish are being caught.
Panfish are starting to pick up on the smaller lakes. Look to the weed lines in 10 to 18 feet of water.
Ice conditions in the area are excellent and most people are driving their vehicles. Snow cover is 6 to 10 inches on the ice so getting around is pretty easy. All accesses are in great shape.
Always be sure to check ice conditions if you don't see tracks in area. Give us a call for the latest conditions and we hope to put you on some fish! Ken's Tackle - 218-495-2895 or kenstackl@hotmail.com.

Ken's Tackle fishing report
Otter Tail Country Fishing Report by Ken's Tackle
Ice reports in the area are very good – 9" to 15" if not more, on all lakes. There has been a little bit of flooding due to the holiday blizzard – but with this cold snap, you should be fine now. Most are driving on the lakes and accesses are holding out well.
Fishing has been pretty good in the area. Look for walleyes and perch in 10' to 25 feet of water. Shiners on a set line or fatheads on a jig or spoon are working best.
Panfish bite has been a little slow this year. Fish the weed lines in 10'to 20' of water with a small jig tipped with a wax worm. You have to be on the move with all fish.
Spearing is regaining popularity – more young people are doing it now and you can also be angling when spearing. Spearing is not allowed on Deer and West Battle Lake.
Have fun and give us a call for the latest update – Ken's Tackle, located on west side of Otter Tail Lake in Battle Lake, MN. Call 218-495-2895.
